FRANKIE FERRER, SHARING HIS EXPERIENCES UNDER THE "MEN AT WORK PROGRAM". HE IS NOW WORKING AS AN ELECTRICIAN IN A PRIVATE COMPANY.
History of Men at Work
Alalay sa Kaunlaran (ASKI), Inc. and ASKI Foundation, Inc as social development organizations have been committed in promoting and developing families and communities through its strategies namely micro-finance development, integrated community development and business development and support services. In 2011, ASKI has partnered with Water Hope Foundation and WTRC for significant establishment of water project in the province of Nueva Ecija. The partnership bounds toward improving the livelihood of impoverished communities through sustainable and effective community development activities. Strategically, one water refilling station was established in Barangay Lourdes, Cabanatuan City which in return aims to support the ASKI School of Knowledge and ASKI Foundation. Through the school, more than 50 indigent children were provided with educational assistance every year. In addition, the ASKI Foundation organizes poor families and prepare them for possible livelihoods and employment opportunities. The focal communities include San Isidro, Lourdes, Valle Cruz, Bakod Bayan, Bagong Sikat. In the continuing discussions among parents of the cited barangays, ASKI found out that majority of the men have seasonal sources of income. Further, a number of youth lacks the chance to take higher education ( degree or vocational courses ) due to financial difficulties. In acknowledgment to the assessed needs and to the goal of ASKI and WTRC to create employment among disadvantaged families, the “Men At Work Program” with sub- project entitled “ Empowering Urban Men Through Integrated Development Approach “ is centered in the organization and training of low income men and capacitating their social, economic and spiritual abilities through participative and transformational dimensions.
